Publicize Meetup Events Through Facebook and LinkedIn

Are you making the best use of Facebook and LinkedIn to publicize your Meetup events? More and more business events are held through Meetup groups these days. By promoting them on these social media sites, you increase the chances of more people knowing about and attending them.   Review Your Meetup Group Photo and Profile Before you start taking my advice, check your Meetup profile. Often, people start out using Meetup for social purposes, so their Meetup photo is more informal. If you are aligning your Meetup group’s events with your business use of social media, your photo should be [...]

Make Business Networking Worth Your While

Do you ever wonder if business networking is worth your while? If done effectively, business networking can contribute positively to your bottom line. Every year, I find that over 70% of the revenue for my business is the result of business networking. Although I’ve been skilled at such networking for many years, I continue to seek resources to help me with this important activity. The person I turn to consistently for professional guidance regarding this is Alyce Blum. A certified networking coach and consultant, she hosts a terrific monthly Meetup in Denver. The purpose of the group is to help [...]

4GenNow and the Benefits of Intergenerational Collaboration

Have you heard of 4GenNow and the benefits of intergenerational collaboration? I’ve been blessed to experience these benefits in many ways. Specifically, my accountability partner, a member of Generation X, has helped me to stay on track to achieve my goals. She and I check in by phone with each other twice a month. In addition, I’ve had a dynamic relationship with two members of the Millennial generation as master mind partners. We've met in person on a consistent basis for two years. All four of us have taken our businesses to higher levels because of the strength and support [...]

Ways to Ask for Feedback from Your Clients

There are many ways to ask for feedback from your clients. Have you been thinking of asking your clients what they think of your product or service? Recently, I sent an email to my clients asking for their feedback. I had been planning to let them know about some reduced pricing on my LinkedIn webinars and decided to combine the two. To be honest, it takes courage to ask for feedback. Sometimes responses can hurt your feelings. However, most often, people will share ideas that will help you improve the way you deliver your services. Be sure to follow up [...]

Access LinkedIn from Your Computer – Not Just from Your Mobile App

On occasion, it is important to access LinkedIn from your computer - not just from your mobile app. Why? Well, while it’s true that for much of our social media activity, the mobile app works just fine. You can post, send, and receive connection invites, use internal messaging features, check your news feed, and more. However, there are some things you can’t do from LinkedIn’s mobile app. These may not be things you do often, but they are handy to know about. And knowing in advance that they must be done on a computer will save time and frustration.   [...]

Invite Your Facebook Friends to Like Your Facebook Business Page

Inviting your Facebook Friends to like your Facebook business page might seem obvious. Yet, many people don’t do it. Or perhaps they don’t know how. Facebook removed the “Invite Your Friends” option from the drop-down menu found when you click on the three dots just under your page’s cover photo. There could be people, like me, who were wondering how to use the Invite Your Friends option. Now, to find that option, you need to go the Community Section, found on the right-hand side of your business page. Please note that this invitation will show up in your friends’ notifications. [...]

Social Media Connection Requests from Strangers

Social media connection requests from strangers - how do you handle them? We often devote a fair amount of time and energy to expanding our number of connection on social media. However,  have you thought about how to spot people you should avoid? I’m referring to the people you don’t know who reach out and want to connect. How do you decide whom to accept and whom to reject? A quick glance at their page can be enough. Maybe their LinkedIn profile is mysteriously sparse, or they have very few friends on Facebook. However, in some cases, you may have [...]

Share Your Personal Interests on LinkedIn

Should you share your personal interests on LinkedIn? At first blush, it doesn’t seem like a social media site that lends itself to that. The culture of the site and the format of the profile can feel very business-centric. Yet, there are many ways you can use LinkedIn to show folks that you are more than what you do for a living. Whether you are a job seeker, a business owner, or a business development professional – you benefit by sharing your personal side. Start by adding some sections to your LinkedIn profile that relate to your personal interests, especially [...]

Be Consistent in Your Profile Info Across ALL Your Social Media

Be sure to be consistent in your profile info across all your social media sites. In other words, does the About section of all the sites you use for business read similarly? Does your LinkedIn summary resemble the Our Story section on your Facebook business page? Beyond the text you use, are you using the same profile photo and background picture? This type of consistency helps reinforce your brand. Periodically do an audit of your profiles to update information that may have changed. And check for consistency. Here are some tips for these sections, including character limits.   Facebook About [...]
