Have you heard of 4GenNow and the benefits of intergenerational collaboration? I’ve been blessed to experience these benefits in many ways.

Specifically, my accountability partner, a member of Generation X, has helped me to stay on track to achieve my goals. She and I check in by phone with each other twice a month.

In addition, I’ve had a dynamic relationship with two members of the Millennial generation as master mind partners. We’ve met in person on a consistent basis for two years.

All four of us have taken our businesses to higher levels because of the strength and support we share.

Another wonderful experience with intergenerational collaboration happened at the April 30 meeting of our 4GenNow Denver Meetup group. There we had an intergenerational panel addressing the topic “Where are you and how did you get there?”

Our panel moderator Paul Graham, one of the organizers of our Meetup group, elicited a wide range of thoughtful responses from our panelists. Along with me as the Baby Boomer representative, the panelists were Dawn Todd (Gen X), Sommer Grandchamp (Millennial) and Devon L (Gen Z). The panelists and Paul are in the photo that is featured with this blog post.

How I Got Introduced to 4GenNow

It was just over a year ago that Jim Sugarman, Founder of the non-profit 4GenNow, reached out to me on LinkedIn.https://www.meetup.com/Denver-Uniting-Generational-Entrepreneurs

I replied with the standard question I ask anyone I don’t already know who invites me to connect: What prompted you to reach out to me?

He wrote back the following:

“I have a LinkedIn group with 550+ Millennials and Boomers who would like to launch companies together and are from 33 states and 22 countries. I thought you might like to join! Also, I am planning a conference in Denver… perhaps we can chat next week?”

Intrigued by the idea of bringing together Millennials and Baby Boomers, I accepted his invite. We had a phone call shortly after that. Quickly, I became enamored with the concept of 4GenNow. Before I knew it, I was recruiting people to come to his conference.

We were delighted that over 200 people attended that very successful conference. Plus, I got to make a presentation and share some LinkedIn tips.

What’s 4GenNow?

Quoting from our Denver Meetup Group description:

“4GenNow is about inspiring four generations of entrepreneurs (Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X, and Boomer) to launch startups together. It is both a non-profit organization and an international movement of intergenerational entrepreneurs from 35 states and 23 countries.

We believe that the more diverse a team’s generational experience and interests, the more successful the team. Baby Boomer, Gen X, Millennial, and Gen Z entrepreneurs all have amazing qualities that complement their generational counterparts.

Among the advantages of having an intergenerational team are:

  • Diversity of know-how
  • Funding availability
  • Ability to uncover market niches and anticipate costly pitfalls
  • Wide variety of tech skills
  • Obtaining insights from people with many different backgrounds and experiences”
