Creating Articles That Tie to Your Social Media Presentations

By creating articles that tie to your social media presentations, you can promote upcoming talks on social media. Such articles can also be a great way to introduce yourself to niched groups of business people.   Examples of Recent Articles I Wrote In the past few weeks, I’ve had two articles published. “Safe fun for older adults on Facebook,” was published in several newspapers serving readers in small communities near Denver. The other article, “Three Best Practices for Using LinkedIn,” appeared in the Fourth Quarter Issue of The MHEDA Journal. Readers of this journal are members of the Material Handling [...]

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of My Business

This month I’m celebrating the 10th anniversary of my business, Boomers’ Social Media Tutor. Back in 2010 as I was winding up a 17-year career in sales, I decided to start a new career. Although I didn’t go full-time into my business until March 2013, I created my LLC in October 2010. I remember the challenge of creating the name like it was yesterday. Even though Boomers’ Social Media Tutor is a mouthful, it truly represents what I offer and who I serve.   Taglines and Slogans In reflecting over this decade of being in business, so many thoughts come [...]

What to Do When Someone Pretends to Be You on Instagram

Do you know what to do when someone pretends to be you on Instagram? It can be very unsettling when someone pretends to be you on a social site you use. Sadly, this kind of activity is far too common. When something like this happens, the key is to act swiftly to both notify your connections on the account and to make a report through the standard processes of the social site. Then make a point to carefully monitor the account in case it happens again.   My Own Experience of Someone Impersonating My Instagram Account Just over a week ago, I had [...]

Value of Reducing the Time Spent on Social Media

During a recent trip with my husband, I definitely appreciated the value of reducing the time spent on social media. Instead of constantly interacting with Facebook and LinkedIn, I focused on enjoying the scenery around me. Plus, it was so refreshing to have so much uninterrupted time to reconnect with my husband. In the evenings, we would read or just go to sleep early. It was one of the most relaxing trips I’ve taken in a long time. Have you found ways to step away from social media, or at least reduce your time on it? If you haven’t, I [...]

Use Social Media to Support Local Businesses

There are many ways to use social media to support local businesses, who need extra PR these days. Have you been primarily based in your home since mid-March as I have been? Think of ways you can promote local businesses you haven’t been able to use in the last two months. It occurs me that social media is a terrific tool for that. Examples that come to mind for me are my chiropractor, hairdresser, acupuncturist, and massage therapist. Who are some folks you are looking forward to seeing?   How I Promoted My Chiropractor, Dr. Jake Hasse Fortunately, my local [...]

Participating in the 10-Day Mom Challenge on Facebook

If you are a mom, you might be participating in the 10-day mom challenge on Facebook, as I am. A friend of mine from church recently nominated me for the challenge, which was certainly an honor. Yet, immediately the project felt a bit daunting. Before I continue with my experience, let me explain how this challenge works. If you are nominated for the 10-day mom challenge, you being asked to post 10 different photos over 10 consecutive days - one photo each day. The photos you choose need to relate to you as a mom. It could be of you [...]

Positives of Using Social Media in the COVID-19 Era

I believe there are many positives of using social media in the COVID-19 era. Certainly, there are negatives to using social media in this era. Here are some that come to mind: Getting caught up in the blow-by-blow reports on the number of positive cases and deaths. Finding yourself annoyed when people post about the degree of responsiveness of local, state, and national authorities. Social media threads with people arguing about the projected impact of the virus. Inaccurate information about how to keep yourself and others from getting the virus. However, I’ve concluded that the positives of using social media [...]

Ways to Slow Down on Social Media

It’s been good for me to find ways to slow down on social media, especially over the holidays. Over the last few weeks, I’ve read a few great books and spent more time with my family. Social media, which is often so prominent in my life, was relegated to a secondary status. Have you found ways to step away from social media, or at least reduce the amount of time you spend on it? If you haven’t, I highly recommend finding ways to take breaks from it now and then. And you don’t need a major holiday to do it. [...]
