There are many ways to use social media to support local businesses, who need extra PR these days.

Have you been primarily based in your home since mid-March as I have been? Think of ways you can promote local businesses you haven’t been able to use in the last two months. It occurs me that social media is a terrific tool for that.

Examples that come to mind for me are my chiropractor, hairdresser, acupuncturist, and massage therapist. Who are some folks you are looking forward to seeing?

How I Promoted My Chiropractor, Dr. Jake Hasse

Fortunately, my local chiropractor, Dr. Jake Hasse, was able to reopen a couple weeks ago, much to my delight. My monthly chiropractic adjustments are an important part of my health care regimen.

As I was about to leave his office after the much-appreciated adjustment, a thought occurred to me. Maybe I could put a photo of him on my Instagram and Facebook accounts and thank him for his services. He was up for it, so I took the photo right then and posted it to those two sites when I got home.

I was going to stop there, but then I realized I could do more than just put a post. I could pay Facebook boost the post with his photo and my note of appreciation. So, I did that, and in just three days, the post reached over 2,000 people!

Use Social Media to Support Your Local Businesses

  • Share posts about your experience with the business through social sites that their customers tend to use. Be sure to “tag” the name of the business, and when appropriate, the name of the provider.
  • Be sure to include a photo of them at their business.
  • Write a review of the business on their Facebook business page as well as on their Google My Business page.
  • If they are more of a business-to-business service, write a short post on LinkedIn about them. Again, be sure to mention the person’s name as well as their company page if they have one.
  • Use the section of LinkedIn called Featured to showcase the post you wrote.
  • You could also write an article on LinkedIn about the types of business providers you are happy to see again.
  • As you see these types of posts on any social media sites, comment on them, and then share them to your connections.
