One of my favorite events of the year is the Un-Job Fair, sponsored by the Colorado Free University and held at their facility in east Denver on a Saturday in late May. Entrepreneurs come from all over the greater Denver metro area to discover ways to enhance their self-employment success. Space doesn’t permit me to elaborate on what I learned from each presenter this year, so I have highlighted some of the tips from three: Tamara Kleinberg, Brad Friedman, and Deborah Flomberg.

Brad Friedman: President of The Friedman Group, Inbound & Social Media Strategy Development and Implementation

  • LinkedIn is your personal Digital Footprint; use it to tell people about what you do and what differentiates you from others.
  • Always start with building out your profile, and be sure to have a professional looking photo.
  • Take advantage of the search tools available within LinkedIn to build your network, then use it to find referral sources and prospects.
  • Engage with others on LinkedIn;  get involved with LinkedIn groups in your industry and/or geographic area.
  • Keep in mind that people do business with those they consider trustworthy and credible, and LinkedIn is one of the best platforms to build both of those things.

  • Include customer videos on your YouTube channel to help build engagement with your channel.
  • Consistently create content and add it to your channel to keep it fresh and interesting.
  • Sound quality is key!
  • Leverage your YouTube channel via social media: blog it, tweet it, post it.
  • Use a colon in the name of your video – it helps in a Google search.
