Ever since I joined one a few months ago, I’ve truly seen the value of being on a peer advisory board.

I belong to a seven-member peer advisory board that meets virtually once a month for three hours. Mary Gaul, my business coach and owner of Success Magnified, runs this board and a few others. Having offered this peer advisory board experience for over eight years, Mary does a masterful job.

The photo with this post shows Mary with me and the other members of my board. Top row: Joyce Feustel, Mary Gaul, and Amanda Miller; Middle row: Jennifer Dixon, Lori Osborne, and Donna Mazzitelli; Bottom row: Maggie Miller and Malina Peterson.

Here’s how she describes these boards on her website.

“Peer Advisory Boards offer entrepreneurs a mastermind group with the powerful, proprietary, Pinnacle Success System™ as its foundation. Each board is comprised of a carefully selected group of entrepreneurs offering their wisdom and counsel in a facilitated conversation. Education, new concepts, and tools are introduced each month.

The board meeting’s primary focus is for each entrepreneur to present current challenges that are holding them back and/or new opportunities and possibilities for growth. Advisory boards offer counsel and accountability with the goal of assisting each board member to expand and accelerate their growth and success.”

In addition to the monthly meetings, each board member can meet individually with other board members. Each month, Mary matches two board members as accountability partners. These twosomes meet at least once (typically via Zoom or phone) during the month. If both are in the same locale, they can meet in person. Then, the next month, there’s a different matchup of accountability partners.

How I’ve Benefitted From Being on My Peer Advisory Board

  • Being part of this board was instrumental in launching my LinkedIn newsletter. I’d been thinking about starting it for some time. And when I committed to the board that I would launch it by February 9, I met that deadline.
  • Seeing other board members achieve their goals is very inspiring to me. It’s such a wonderful feeling to celebrate their achievements with them.
  • It’s so gratifying to be part of a group where the members genuinely care about each other – personally and professionally. Plus, there’s a confidentiality agreement, so whatever we share at a board meeting stays among the board members.
  • Other board members have been so helpful to me in the process of rolling out a new service that will be unveiled soon. They’ve come up with ideas for the service’s name and ways to describe it to potential clients.
  • In addition, I’ve genuinely enjoy the opportunity to provide ideas and resources to other board members. Being on this board gives me more opportunities to be generous.
