Has a social media connection opened up unexpected doors for you?

Success_3[1]

Probably each person using social media has had this kind of thing happen at least once, if not many times.

Here’s the story of how my latest door opened for me.

Julie Genovesi Finds Me on LinkedIn

Nearly 3 months ago New York Life Insurance Agent Julie Genovesi found me on the business oriented social media site LinkedIn and asked me to connect with her.

After reviewing her profile, I accepted her invite. Although I am a pretty open networker, I do like to know why people want to connect with me. So, I wrote back to her and asked her why she had reached out to me.

She replied that her leads group that was part of the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce (CWCC) was looking for a speaker on social media.

I wrote back that I would definitely like to speak to the leads group.

Then Julie invited me to the CWCC monthly new member orientation. She said she would be there too and it would be a good place to meet her in person. I decided to attend.

By the time I left the 90-minute orientation I became very interested in the idea of joining the CWCC.

My Decision to Join the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce

I wanted to be sure that CWCC was the kind of organization where I would benefit from investing my time as well as my money. Over the summer I attended chamber sponsored seminars, plus I visited all five of the leads groups.

Here are some of the key reasons that I decided to join CWCC:

  1. The chamber has five leads groups that are all within 30 minutes of my home. These business referral groups meet twice a month, which fits my schedule better than weekly meetings. So, I felt that I had a variety of groups to choose from, and I can select the one that works best for me.
  2. CWCC regularly sponsors excellent seminars and makes them available to both members and potential members. I liked that I could attend these seminars prior to joining.
  3. If I take my membership level a step up from the beginning level, I could be a presenter at these seminars.
  4. The caliber of the people who have attended the orientation, seminars and leads groups was very impressive.
  5. CWCC has many tools to help their members succeed in their business endeavors.

Business Owners

I am excited about this new venture and am very grateful to Julie Genovesi for seeking me out via LinkedIn. If she hadn’t done that, I might not have even looked into joining the CWCC.

Thank you, Julie, for opening an unexpected door for me. To find out more about Julie, here is a link to her profile on LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=223663358&locale=en_US&trk=tyah
