Do you make a point to keep up with messages received on Facebook and LinkedIn?

This is one of the most important things to do if you want to get the most out of either of these sites.

Some people will communicate with you through these rather than by sending an email. These folks may be clients, potential clients, and/or other business connections. You may very well lose out on opportunities with these folks if you miss their messages.

The examples listed below all happened in the last month. They will help you to get an idea of the value of staying on top of your messages.

Some Recent Messages in Facebook Messenger

  • Long term client and referral partner encouraged a friend of hers to reach out to me for help with LinkedIn. This person sent me a Facebook message inquiring about my services.
  • Recent client introduced me to two of her business colleagues by sending a Facebook message in which she recommended my services.
  • Someone who had liked my page wrote me that she might want to use my services.
  • Former client sent a question about how to unfriend someone she had accidentally connected with. I was able to help her quickly and easily.
  • Potential client with a forthcoming book asked to schedule a session after I commented about his proposed cover image.
  • Former client reached out to reconnect through a lunch date, which we scheduled through messaging.

Some Recent Messages in LinkedIn Messaging

  • While I was unable to help a potential client referred by a business colleague, I was able to connect her with another social media professional who could do what she needed.
  • A business connection was interviewing filling a job at her company and noticed a candidate was a LinkedIn connection of mine. She asked for feedback and I was able to give a great recommendation.
  • A personal brand coach wanted to feature me in an upcoming blog post. Being featured in this way by an influencer in the field has been terrific for my professional brand.
  • Attendee at a recent presentation sent a note about how much he got out of my presentation, adding that he may be needing my services soon.
