Some people prefer not to use Facebook to communicate with friends and family. However, in order to have a business page, you have to have a personal account first.
If you want to keep access to your personal page to a minimum to preserve your Facebook privacy, here are some tips for using it mainly as a portal to your business page.
Tips for Facebook Privacy
- Review the Privacy section in the settings of your Facebook account carefully.
- Be sure you have set it so your posts can only be seen by your Facebook friends.
- Review all posts and things you are tagged in, so you control what appears on your timeline.
- Allow only your Facebook friends to look you up on Facebook using your name or email address.
- Do not allow search engines outside of Facebook to link to your profile.
- Do the same for the Timeline and Tagging sections.
- Make sure you have blocked anyone from posting on your timeline.
- For those times when you allowed something you were tagged in to appear on your timeline, select the option that allows only you to see it.
- Keep your list of Facebook friends visible to you alone.
- Go to your Facebook timeline and click on the Friends tab.
- Click on the pencil icon to the right of the Find Friends button.
- Click on Manage Privacy.
- Under the question, “Who can see your friends list?” select “Only Me.”
- Put all your Facebook photos into albums and select the audience option of “Only Me” for each one
- Please note that if you have a profile photo and a cover photo, they are always visible to the public. Make them as business-like as possible.
- Individual photos can only be hidden from or shown on your timeline. Each must be marked individually.
- In the “About” section of your personal page, hide your email address, phone number, as well as your birth date and year.
- Hover your cursor to the far right of each of these items and click on Edit when it appears
- Select Only Me from the drop down options.
