Have you considered how a new professional headshot can impact your business?

Earlier this month, I got a new professional headshot, my first in nearly nine years. Since I was relatively happy with one that was taken back in 2014, I wasn’t motivated to get a new one.

As I prepared to celebrate the 10th anniversary of my business, I decided it was time for a refresh of my look. Along with getting my logo revamped, I scheduled a photo shoot with professional photographer Kellie Henriksen.

Her creativity in how she staged each photo, along with her warmth and friendliness, made me feel like a celebrity! The result was a wide range of excellent photos for me to choose from.

Benefits of Getting a New Professional Headshot

  • Sharing one your new photos on social media can be a great way to draw attention to you and your business. The photo of me holding a mug with my new logo was very popular on LinkedIn and Facebook. It was heartwarming to read all the comments people shared about my new look.
  • Your photo is one of the best ways to attract a client, especially when your personality shines through the photo. When I first started my business, one of my earliest clients selected me because of the photo on my website.
  • You can help draw people to groups you are in with an inviting headshot. For example, I’m the organizer of a business networking group. One of the attendees at a recent meeting said that he came, in part, because of my headshot. He said that I looked like a fun person, and therefore he figured the group must be fun.
  • Adding a prop to a photo, such as you at a laptop, can help show people your professionalism.
  • Having a professional photo that’s been taken relatively recently helps people to recognize you. When you look vastly different in person from your headshot, people are surprised. It’s more authentic to have a photo that looks like you do right now.

Places to Update Your Professional Headshot

Along with the obvious places, like your website and your social media, here’s some other places to put your new headshot:

  • Google Business Profile
  • YouTube channel
  • Zoom
  • Meetup
  • Email signature
  • Business cards
  • Directories of organizations you belong to
