If you have recently started a company, celebrate the launch of your business in a LinkedIn post.

I have found that using LinkedIn to share this kind of good news is one of the most effective ways to get the word out.

You may be tempted to simply write a post that says you have started a business. Instead, I encourage you to follow the steps below.

Steps for Creating a Post About Your New Business

  • Go to the Home page and click on “Start a post.”
  • Click on the three dots at the bottom of the pop-up screen and select “Celebrate an occasion.”
  • Select the option called “New position.”
  • Instead of selecting one of the graphics available through LinkedIn, click on “Add a photo,” select a photo from your computer related to your business, and click on the “Next” button.
  • Type the text of your post. Briefly describe your new business and what motivated you to start it.
  • Be sure to tag the key people who were instrumental in helping you get this business off the ground. Examples of people to tag would be your website designer, your photographer, and others who help you with your marketing.
  • Add two to five hashtags that relate to the nature of your business.
  • Click on the “Post” button.

Following Up After You Create Your Post

  • Be sure to check your LinkedIn notifications at least daily for the first few days after you create your post.
  • For those who comment on your post, be sure to reply to their comment and thank them for their congratulations and support.
  • You may want to reach out by email, phone or text to at least some of your well-wishers and suggest the two of you connect over coffee or Zoom.

Jan Peterson’s Post About Launching Her Business

Jan has been a client of mine for nearly 10 years, and I’ve helped her with her Linked primarily when she was looking for a job. Recently, she told me that she was about to launch her business, Blossoms Senior Placement & Consulting. She needed my help with updating her profile to include information about this new business. Then, once the profile was finished, she wanted help with creating a post announcing the business.

We followed the steps that I just described, plus Jan followed up in a timely manner with all her well-wishers. Within only a couple of days, she had over 2,500 views of her post. Over 100 people liked the post or reacted to it, and over 30 people commented on it. She was truly touched that so many people congratulated her on this wonderful new chapter in her life.

I believe that one of the reasons that Jan had such a wonderful response to her post was her selection of the photo she used with the post, which you will find at the top of this blog post. She has a photo of her mom on the wall behind her, and Jan is emulating the pose her mom had in photo of her. It was being the caregiver for her mom at the end of her life that inspired Jan to start her business. There are flowers in the picture which tie to the word “blossoms” in Jan’s business name. Plus, Jan has a floral print in the dress she’s wearing.
