Taking a Friend to Taste of the West

Taking a Friend to Taste of the West   Last night I had so much fun taking a friend to Taste of the West, one of my favorite West Metro Chamber events. My friend Linda Schreiner is a licensed, independent insurance broker specializing in Medicare and is affiliated with Integrity Insurance. I met her in the late 1990s, and she’s been my friend ever since. According to the chamber’s promo for this event: “Taste of the West is Jefferson County's premier culinary event! Join over 80 vendors and 1,000 foodies for this food, beverage, and business extravaganza! Experience the best restaurants, [...]

Why I Love My Aging Well Leads Group

There are many reasons that I love my Aging Well Leads Group, one of my favorite business networking groups.   Background on Aging Well Leads Group Our group started in May 2019 when the West Metro Chamber held a fair called “Aging Well.” The fair was for people providing services to older adults and people looking for such services. Several chamber members, including current leads group members Ann Coughenour, Jenn Gomer, Josh Caucutt, and Paulette Fierle, believed it was important for the chamber to have a leads group focused on serving older adults. All our members provide services for older [...]

In-Person or Virtual Business Networking Groups?

Do you prefer in-person or virtual business networking groups? When it comes down to groups in general, the main attributes of those I want to stay in or potentially join are: Friendliness of the group – especially to first-time guests The degree of support the members show for each other Whether the group is energetic and the meetings are lively Follow-up by the group leader and members with visitors Whether the meeting is well-run and stays on schedule As a person determines which type of business networking group to join, one of their considerations is in-person vs. virtual. The [...]

What Contributes to the Success of a Business Networking Group?

Have you ever wondered what contributes to the success of a business networking group? I’ve asked myself that question on many occasions over the nearly 10 years since I went full-time with my business. I’ve asked it as a leader of several different business networking groups. And I’ve asked it whenever I explore the possibility of joining a new group. A couple months ago, I wrote a blog post on this topic. That post was written as I was deciding whether to join a new group and whether to leave an existing group. Here’s what I wrote then: When [...]

Hats Off to SHE Leads Group!

Hats off to SHE Leads Group and especially to its founder, Beth Boen. This week I had the opportunity to attend two functions of the SHE Leads Group. On Monday, I participated in a very lively virtual business-category-exclusive speed networking event. Today, I visited their Coast-to-Coast B2B Virtual Chapter, and was very impressed with the group. Beth created SHE Leads Group in 2016 to offer women more than a traditional leads group. Specifically, it provides: Business development training at every meeting Business category exclusivity in multiple categories Schedules that honor professional women in business Local, professional, established and reputable businesses [...]

Have You Gotten to Know the Executive of Your Chamber of Commerce?

Have you gotten to know the executive of your chamber of commerce? If not, make a point to do so. Suggest that the two of you go out for coffee or lunch. Share some of your professional expertise with them. Make a point of introducing them to people in your business community. Reaching out to your chamber executive is especially important when they are new to their position. They appreciate it when chamber members help them to get grounded in the community the chamber serves.   Introducing Kristin Kim, VP and Head of the West Metro Chamber Kristin took on [...]

In-Person Business Networking is Back!

I’m delighted that in-person business networking is back! As an off-the-chart extravert and compulsive connector, it feels great to be seeing people face-to-face again. My very first in-person business networking event since the pandemic started took place this week. I attended Women in Business, an offering of the West Metro Chamber of Commerce, my local chamber. At this monthly program, geared toward women business owners, we have terrific speakers and plenty of time to mingle with each other. Each month we have a different sponsor, and this time Colorado Credit Union both sponsored and hosted the event. Shauna Brazil, Director [...]
