Have you looked at all the ways you can brand yourself on your personal Facebook page?

Whether you have a Facebook business page or not, include branded information in your personal part of Facebook too.

In general, I recommend that business owners create a business page. Doing so helps increase your search engine optimization (SEO). You also have many features on your business page not available on your personal page.

Yet, some people go into overwhelm when they think of managing a business page. Others choose to use their personal presence primarily for business purposes.

Do an audit of your personal page and see if you have populated all the sections described below. Be sure that your audience for each of these sections is listed as Public. That way, anyone finding you on Facebook will be able to access this information.

Brand Yourself in the About Section of Your Personal Page

  • If you have a business page, add it in the Workplace part of the Work & Education section. Include a short description of your services and products, including key words as often as possible.
  • Below Workplace is Professional Skills. List as many as are relevant. You can go to the Skills and Endorsements section of your LinkedIn profile to get ideas for more skills to include.
  • In Contact and Basic Information, there are places to include your company’s website as well as other social media sites where you have a presence. Include sites for Meetup groups you run and volunteer organizations where you have a leadership role. All these will display on your page just below your featured photos.
  • In Details About You, you can include a short narrative about how you got involved with your business. You can also describe your services and products. Plus, you can reference any relevant professional credentials and certifications. There doesn’t appear to be a character limit for this section, so, consider adapting the About Us part of your website or the Summary section of your LinkedIn profile.

More Ways to Brand Yourself in Your Personal Facebook Page

  • Make the cover photo relate to your business.
  • Use keywords in the Intro section, found just under your profile photo. There is a 90-charactger limit for this section.
  • Find some of your favorite photos showing you working and add them to the featured photos section just below the Intro section.
  • In the About section of your business page, add yourself as a team member. Doing that creates a line in your personal page that says “Manages – the name of your business page.”

How About You?

What did your audit of your page reveal? Did you find some sections had not been using? Or did you find some places where you could elaborate a bit more?
