With so many people opting to access social media sites from their mobile devices, some people may be wondering if they should even bother to keep accessing those sites via computer.

My response is – the computer is still necessary, especially for customizing privacy settings and making changes in your personal profile on a site like LinkedIn or in the About section of your Facebook timeline.

Senior Couple Series

Certainly there are a wide range of activities that you CAN do on mobile devices, from sending Friend requests on Facebook, to posting a status update on LinkedIn, to pinning something to a board on Pinterest, to accessing the help centers of your favorite social sites, just to mention a few.

Here are some things that, to the best of my knowledge, you must be on a computer rather than a mobile device to accomplish on LinkedIn and Facebook.

Use a Computer (Not a Mobile Device) to Do The Following on LinkedIn:

  • Edit your profile.
  • Move the sections of your profile
  • Customize Privacy and Settings options.
  • Customize settings within your LinkedIn Groups.
  • Create a LinkedIn Company Page.
  • Create a LinkedIn Group.
  • Block or report someone.

Use a Computer (Not a Mobile Device) to Do The Following on Facebook:

  • Block someone from sending you event or game invites – the mobile app only allows you to block someone entirely, not block them from doing certain things.
  • Revise the About information in your personal timeline.
  • Customize who can see various parts of your About section.
  • Change the privacy settings for your Friend list.
  • Restrict who can see a photo where you have tagged someone.
  • Report that someone has created an account pretending to be you.
  • Adjust the settings of a business page.

How About You?

Are you still using only a computer when accessing your social sites? Have you explored all the options available to on your mobile app?
