Has someone done a terrific job for you lately? Maybe it was a home service, such as carpet cleaning or painting. Perhaps it was a professional service, such as accounting or insurance.
In addition to using the online reputation services such as Yelp or Google reviews, consider commending them (or their company) via a social media site, such as Facebook or LinkedIn.
Rate Your Service Provider on Their Facebook Business Page
The next time you get great service from a business, go to Facebook and search for their business page and choose one or more of these thank you options:
- Rate their service and write a short note about the specific things you especially appreciated.
- If you have already rated their service on their page (or if they have the type of business page which doesn’t give you a rating option), just post a short note about your positive experience.
- Post a picture that relates to the service (if their settings allow it). For example, if you are delighted with a new hair style, take a photo of yourself and post it with your enthusiastic response to your new look on your hair stylist’s business page.
- Share updates from the service provider’s Facebook page to your own Facebook timeline (aka personal page) and tell your Facebook friends how awesome the service provider is.
- If you are friends on Facebook with the service provider, you can also “tag” the person by name in your post.
Endorse a Skill and/or Write a Recommendation on Someone’s LinkedIn Profile
- To endorse someone, just search for their profile and scroll down to the Skills and Endorsements section.
- Click on the + sign to the right of the skill(s) you want to endorse.
- It’s important to be selective and endorse only skills you are personally familiar with them using.
- To recommend someone, search for their profile and click on the drop down arrow to the right of button that says Send Message.
- Then click on Recommend and complete the template.
- A variation is to draft a recommendation and send it to the person directly via LinkedIn’s messaging system or email to the person you are recommending.
- Ask them to review the recommendation to make sure it is something they still offer.
- This also gives the person a chance to let you know if you left something out, had a typo, or did anything else that needs to be changed.
Important note: you must be connected with someone on LinkedIn in order to endorse or recommend them.
