Do you use social media to announce your accomplishments? You may feel that people will get annoyed if you celebrate yourself.
Instead, I have experienced that people will be happy for you and honor you for your accomplishments.
Being Named 2024 Solopreneur of the Year
On February 13, 2024, the West Metro Chamber of Commerce, serving Jefferson County, Colorado, named me its 2024 Solopreneur of the Year.
There were three award finalists, and the emcee acknowledged each of us individually. I was thrilled to hear her read my name as the award winner. Walking up to the stage to receive the award with all the applause from over 200 people in the audience felt surreal.
My acceptance speech was very simple. I related that the first position in my sales career was being this chamber’s membership representative. That was in 1996, when I was 47 years old. I then told the audience, “How sweet it feels at 75 years old to receive the Solopreneur of the Year award.”
What made the evening even more special was sharing it with two of my family members. Also celebrating with me was a longtime friend from Toastmasters, my accountability partner, and several business friends.
We had a picture taken of this group of my supporters, and several other fun photos, including the one at the top of this blog post. Celebrating with me from left to right are: Mary Wuest, Mary Gaul, Lori Dubois, and Debbie Stratton.
Later that evening, I posted the group photo of all my supporters who sat with me at the event to my social media. In addition, two of my supporters shared posts about the evening.
Suggestions for Announcing Accomplishments via Social Media
- Make the announcement relatively soon after your accomplishment. It feels more newsworthy and special to let people know right away.
- Include one or more photos with the social media posts. If your accomplishment was receiving an award like I got, include a picture of you with your supporters.
- If others were involved in your accomplishment, reference them by tagging them in your social media posts.
- Feature or pin these posts on your social media to bring more attention to the posts.
- Track the social media posts of others at the event and thank them for those posts.
- Acknowledge each person’s comment on your posts and on the posts of others.
- Update your LinkedIn profile with information on your accomplishment. For example, add it to the Honors & Awards section. You may also want to reference the achievement in your profile headline.
