Are you on Facebook or Twitter? Ever feel overwhelmed with the amount of commentary that follows through your newsfeed on these social media sites?

One system that has helped me is that of creating lists. Facebook automatically sets up certain lists for you, such as Family or Close Friends.

You can also create specialized lists on Facebook. Then you can group your Facebook friends into one or more lists. So, if you are especially interested in the postings of your friends from work, church, or an organization you are in, you can just click on those lists.

To create a list on Facebook, here are the steps. It might look complicated, but it really is pretty easy.

  • Click on Home (on the top right of the page where you see your newsfeed)
  • Scroll down on the left hand side until you come to FRIENDS
  • Click on MORE, which is just to the right of Friends. At that point you can see all the lists that you have created in the past or that Facebook has created for you.
  • From there you click on Create List
  • Name your list
  • Start typing in names of Facebook friends who you want to have on that list. Their names and photos will appear after just a few key strokes.
  • When you have added all the people you initially want on this list, click on the Create button.
  • Each list has its own page.
  • When you click on any list, you will see the postings of everyone you have added to that list.
  • On the right hand side of that page, you will see List Suggestions, and there will typically be several Facebook friends that you will be prompted to add to your list.
  • If you want to add a Facebook friend to this list, click the Add button to the right of their photo and name.
  • If you don’t want to add the person to your list, click on the X to the far right of their photo and name.
  • If you want this list to appear under Favorites on your Home page, click on MORE next to FRIENDS. The click on the pencil icon to the list of the name of your list. Then click on Add to Favorites.
  • That is also where you can delete the list if you don’t want to have that list anymore. Click on the pencil icon and select “delete list.”
