How often do you update your social media profiles?

Granted, I am not active on ALL the available social media sites, but I am active on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Pinterest.

The site that has the most robust profile options is certainly LinkedIn.  You can find me there at:  www.linkedin.com/in/joycefeustel/

Having just gone through my LinkedIn profile with a fine-toothed comb, I found a few things that needed changing. Plus I had some additions to make.

For example, I never added the name of my social media certificate – Online Marketing and Social Media Certification Level 1 – that I got in December from the Colorado Free University.

Nor had I added the list of the 11 courses I took to get that certificate. There’s a place in the LinkedIn profile template for certificates and courses.

Often it is these kinds of courses that are more relevant to what we are currently doing than the degree(s) we got back in college.

Once I had my LinkedIn profile tidied up, I figured I better check the About section of my Facebook profile to see if that needed updating too. Sure enough, I hadn’t put my ending date for my social media studies there, though I had the beginning date.

This may not seem like that big a deal, but I think it is important to show when you FINISH something, not just that you started it.

I share this example about getting that certificate to help you think of what you might want to add to your social media profile.

Maybe you recently received an award in a volunteer organization you belong to. Or you got a promotion at work. Or you took on a new project in your professional association.

All these are worthy of acknowledgement in your social media world. Your connections like to hear about your success stories and your growth – so go ahead and toot your horn.
