I have only the highest praise for Lynette Reiling – author of Your Encore Life: Take Center Stage for Life’s Second Half.
This book, released in September of this year, is truly life-changing, especially for women who are in their 50s and older.
Kelly O’Conner, a TEDx Speaker, has this to say about the book:
“‘Your Encore Life’ lays the foundation for retirees or anyone looking to reinvent their lives to do so in a holistic manner. I love the book format and the readability of the content. Author Lynette Reiling shares her personal story and illustrates the beauty of what it means to live an abundant life.”
Potential
Lynette opens her book with a fascinating statement: “I admit it. I have a lifelong love affair with potential….I am also learning to appreciate, through my own lived experience, how much courage it takes to stay the course through the uncertainty of living through the midlife transitions and beyond…If we don’t fall prey to the old narrative of aging as decline, diminishment, and deterioration – the three D’s – there are so many possibilities waiting for each of us.”
Before starting her life coaching business, Lynnette worked for eight years as a volunteer coordinator for a local hospice. That experience helped her see how important it is to live the life we are called to do. Additionally, she worked as a volunteer recruitment manager for Boomers Leading Change for five years. This organization mobilizes individuals aged 50 and over to utilize their talents and skills for nonprofit partners across the Denver metro area.
Self-Mastery: Owning Who You Are and What You Do
As part of her coaching business, Lynette facilitates groups for women aged 50 to 75. Self-mastery is often a focus of their discussions.
Lynette describes self-mastery as “the ability to build the muscles to act on the world, rather than habitually react to whatever is thrown to us, being in control of our own lives, on our terms.”
If you are a woman in this stage of life, do you feel you have self-mastery?
What It Takes to Gain Self-Mastery
Lynette walks us through the qualities that we need to embody to gain self-mastery. These qualities include:
- Courage
- Creativity
- Intention
- Compassion
- Forgiveness
- Purpose
- Passion
- Gratitude
My Reaction to Lynette’s Book
As someone in my mid-70s, I can relate to how older women can be dismissed or undervalued. Fortunately, life circumstances have led me into a career where I feel valued and seen. Since many of my clients are women over 50, I am honored to help them create LinkedIn profiles showing their greatness.
Lynette’s book reminds me of the many ways I can continue championing the older women in my life to help them be who they are called to be.
