Do you publicize your Meetup Group events through LinkedIn?

Many business events I attend are held through Meetup groups. You can grow the number of attendees at these events by promoting them through LinkedIn.

I’m using the term “events” in this blog post to refer to the meetings that you are holding through your Meetup group.

I’ve been publicizing my own Meetup – Simplify Your Social Media – through LinkedIn for years. The next meeting of my group is July 8 at 1:30 p.m. Mountain Time, and Shawn Teasley, pictured above, will present “DIY or Delegate? Finding the Right Fit for Your Social Media Strategy.” Find out more about her presentation and my Meetup group in the last section of my blog post.

Review Your Photo and Profile(s)

Before you start taking my advice on this matter, check your Meetup profile. Often, people start using Meetup for social purposes, so their Meetup photo is more informal than professional in nature.

However, if you are promoting your Meetup group’s events with LinkedIn, your photos should align. Replace your casual photo you may have on Meetup with the professional head shot photo you use for LinkedIn.

Unlike your photo, you can change your profile info for each of the Meetup groups you belong to. So, for the more business-oriented Meetup groups, have a more business-oriented bio.

Publicize Your Meetup Group Events Through LinkedIn

  • When you create an event on Meetup, there is an option to share the event to LinkedIn. You can also share it to Facebook, X, and Nextdoor. Prepare a short paragraph that summarizes what will happen at the event, tag the presenter(s) and other key people, and then click on Post.
  • As you get closer to the event, create another post through your personal LinkedIn profile and your company page (if you have one).
  • In these posts, tag the presenter(s) you have for the event. Also consider tagging others who are part of the planning and coordination of the event. Be sure to add a visual. Again, summarize what will take place at the Meetup event.
  • Once the post is created, use the edit post feature and then add the URL of the Meetup event.
  • Encourage other members of your Meetup group to share your LinkedIn post and to comment on it. Also, ask people who present at your events to create their own LinkedIn posts to help promote the event.
  • Once the event is over, share a post about the event and include photos of the presenters. It’s another terrific way to publicize the Meetup group and its events.

Upcoming Events at My Simplify Your Social Media Meetup Group

We have a terrific lineup of presenters over the next few months at my Simplify Your Social Media Meetup Group!

Our Meetup group is in its seventh year, and we meet over Zoom the second Tuesdays from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Mountain Time. Our speakers present about social media and related topics.

Shawn Teasley will present “DIY or Delegate: Finding the Right Fit For Your Social Media Strategy” at the July 8 meeting. She is the photo at the top of this blog post.

In this session, we’ll explore the pros and cons of DIY vs. outsourcing your social media, how to find a partner who gets your brand, and the tools you’ll need for either path. The session includes Q&A and practical tips to move forward.

Shawn Teasley is a marketing and social media strategist passionate about digital marketing, storytelling, and social media. As the owner of Social Tonic, she helps businesses streamline marketing through done-for-you services or in-house training.

Dedicated to supporting startups and entrepreneurs, Shawn offers strategic guidance and creative solutions.
