If you were especially close to any of those people, you probably were already friends with them on Facebook.

Maybe you don’t really want to know about their personal business, but you would like to stay in touch professionally.

You never know when that person could help you in some way. Or maybe you will be the one to help them.

Rather than just rely on email or phone contact, consider connecting with them via LinkedIn.

If you don’t already have an account on LinkedIn, it is easy to create one at www.linkedin.com

In just two weeks, I will retire from my job as an enrollment advisor at the College for Financial Planning. It is one of the very best places I have ever worked, and I will miss everyone there.

Many of the students whom I have enrolled in our college’s programs, I have known for years. Saying goodbye to them is practically as hard as saying goodbye to my co-workers.

That is why I suggesting to them that we connect on LinkedIn. Many have taken me up on that.

Now I won’t have to lose touch with them, as I can reach out to them any time I want. Plus when they post about completing an educational program or getting a promotion, I can still cheer them on.

Even if you haven’t seen some co-workers or other work associates for some time, it isn’t too late to rebuild those connections.

How have you used LinkedIn to stay in touch with folks you knew from jobs you have left?
