Have you considered launching a LinkedIn newsletter? If you’ve already done so, it would be great to hear about your experiences.
I’ll launch my LinkedIn newsletter on February 9, and I’m excited about this venture.
A part of my plans to start this newsletter, I’ve turned to LinkedIn and other sources to learn what’s involved. Also, I’ve reviewed a handful of newsletters published by colleagues to get ideas on format and topics.
You might be wondering what’s involved with a LinkedIn newsletter. Instead of publishing articles individually, as you would when you post, you can publish them through your branded newsletter. LinkedIn gives you the option of publishing your newsletter daily, weekly, biweekly, or monthly.

What’s the Point of Publishing a LinkedIn Newsletter?
My motivations for creating a LinkedIn newsletter include:
- Consolidating my longer LinkedIn articles into one place, making it easier for readers to find them.
- Being better able to advise my clients about the process of publishing a LinkedIn newsletter.
- Taking advantage of LinkedIn’s process for encouraging my connections and followers to subscribe to my newsletter once it’s published.
As I wrote in my blog post published on January 4, when I quoted from LinkedIn’s help center:
“You can leverage newsletters on LinkedIn to talk about a professional topic you’re passionate about on a regular basis. LinkedIn members can subscribe to your newsletter to be notified about new articles you publish, allowing you to build and grow a regularly engaged audience.
Starting a newsletter on LinkedIn means you’ll engage your audience from the minute you publish. LinkedIn makes it easy to invite all your connections or followers to subscribe when you create a newsletter. Also, after publishing each newsletter article, push, in-app, and email notifications are sent to all your subscribers to help drive views. You’ll get real-time feedback and comments from your readers, and you can understand how your content is doing with analytics.
When a member starts following another member or a page with a newsletter, a notification inviting them to subscribe to the newsletter is automatically sent.”
What’s Involved in Starting a LinkedIn Newsletter?
- Enable creator mode by going to the Resources section of your profile.
- Click on the word “off” next to creator mode and click on the “next” button.
- Under “creator tools,” scroll down to “Newsletters” and then click on “learn more.”
- Review the access requirements to be sure you qualify to publish a LinkedIn newsletter.
- Follow the steps listed to create the newsletter.
- Keep in mind that you will need to type in a name for the newsletter and a short description of what the newsletter is about. Then you select how often you want to publish it and select an image – LinkedIn recommends 300×300 pixels.
LinkedIn Newsletter Best Practices
Before you launch your newsletter, I suggest you review the best practices LinkedIn recommends.
Here’s a few of them:
- “Choose a name for your newsletter that describes a clear theme that your audience can understand.
- “Choose a clear headline for each newsletter article that can help your audience understand what your article will be about.
- Upload a cover photo for each individual article in your newsletter (1920 (w) x1080 (h) pixels recommended). Try to avoid Clipart or other generic stock images. Images with faces and people tend to resonate more with audiences.
- Maintain the publishing cadence that you chose for your newsletter so that your subscribers can engage regularly with your content.”
