Have you ever wondered how to merge two accounts on LinkedIn? Plenty of people find themselves needing to do so, but aren’t sure how to do it.

You might inadvertently have created a second account (or even more than two accounts). Most commonly, what happens is that people start their first account when they begin a new job. Then at their next job, they start another account, forgetting they had one from before.

Or you might have intentionally created a second account, or more than two accounts. I have seen this happen to folks who are involved in direct sales companies. They believe that for each company they are part of, they should have a different LinkedIn account.

Having two accounts confuses people who find you on LinkedIn, as they aren’t sure which profile to connect with. I highly recommend that you have only one account on LinkedIn. Then, you can create a company page for each of your endeavors as a way to separately market them.

What to Do Before You Merge Two Accounts on LinkedIn

  • Log out of the account you plan to keep, and log into the account that you no longer will be using. To merge two accounts, you will need to have access to the email associated with the account you will no longer be using.
  • If you don’t know the LinkedIn password for the account you don’t want, reset your password by following the instructions on LinkedIn.
  • Click on the More button toward the top of your screen to save this profile as a PDF. You may want to add that content to the account you are keeping.
  • You may also want to review your recommendations for the account you are closing. The recommendations will not carry over when you merge the two accounts. If those people haven’t recommended you on the account you’re keeping, ask them to do so. Explain why you are asking them to recommend you again.
