Have you gotten to know the executive of your chamber of commerce?

If not, make a point to do so. Suggest that the two of you go out for coffee or lunch. Share some of your professional expertise with them. Make a point of introducing them to people in your business community.

Reaching out to your chamber executive is especially important when they are new to their position. They appreciate it when chamber members help them to get grounded in the community the chamber serves.

Introducing Kristin Kim, VP and Head of the West Metro Chamber

Kristin took on the position of VP and head of the West Metro Chamber in October, 2022. She has been very well received by the chamber staff, leaders and members. By way of background, the chamber is a membership organization that is a division of the Jefferson County Economic Development Commission.

Quoting from her LinkedIn profile, “The VP acts as the leader of the business affairs and development activities for the West Metro Chamber, and is responsible for small business programs and initiatives, business leadership training, and stakeholder relations.”

Kristin has 20 years of operational business and non-profit management experience, and considers herself to be an “entrepreneur at heart.”

I first met her when she visited my chamber leads group and found her to be very warm and friendly. Later, I got to visit with her more at a business after hours. During that chat I offered to meet with her and help her in any way I can.

My Experience with the West Metro Chamber

My first exposure to the West Metro Chamber was in 1996 when I was hired to be a membership representative. Working there provided me a wonderful way to become more familiar with the western suburbs of Denver. My family and I had moved to the Denver area from Madison, Wisconsin, the year before.

Then in 2016, a few years after starting my social media tutoring business, I joined the West Metro Chamber. It was a great way to help me grow my business through the people at met at chamber events.

Recently, I went through the chamber’s 10-month leadership program. Through that program, I learned so much about local government, arts & culture, health care services, and much more.

There are many business networking organizations here in the Denver area. I’ve been involved with or visited a number of these organizations. Of all the groups I’ve been part of, the West Metro Chamber is my favorite. I like the size of the organization, and the approachability of the chamber members.
