I’m feeling very grateful for my community of social media learners. The community I’m referring to consists of the members of my Simplify Your Social Media Meetup Group.

Background on My Meetup Group

I created this Meetup group to offer people an opportunity to learn about social media in a fun, interactive setting. In fact, this month I’m celebrating the third anniversary of this monthly group!

The folks who come to our meetings are a wide range of business people. Some are pretty proficient with their social media. However, most of them struggle from time to time with how to handle their social media.

We meet on the second Tuesday from 1:30 – 3 p.m. Mountain Time with 15-20 people in attendance at most meetings. Until the pandemic, we had been meeting at a library in the southern part of the Denver metro area.

Then, like most groups, we moved our meetings to Zoom. Now, we can serve people from all over. In fact, one of our regular attendees lives in Tucson, Arizona.

When we recently did some planning for our 2021 meeting topics, we decided to keep meeting virtually indefinitely. Even when it’s safe to return to in-person meetings, we want to be available to people from outside the Denver area.

Meeting Topics in 2020

In our meetings, we have presentations on social media sites and related topics. Here are the topics that were presented at our meetings in 2020.

  • Using personal stories for professional conversations and presentations
  • Enhancing online presence and reputation
  • Using Facebook groups for lead generation
  • Building your business with the power of images
  • How to be an effective guest on podcasts
  • Whether or not to outsource your content creation
  • Improving your LinkedIn profile
  • Learning how to use LinkedIn more effectively
  • Branding checkups
  • How to effectively adjust your privacy and other social media settings
  • Social media best practices

Possible Meeting Topics for 2021

At a recent planning meeting, we came up with the following possible meeting topics for 2021. If you know of folks who present on these topics, please email me at joyce@boomerssocialmediatutor.com

  • Effective ways to solicit reviews and testimonials to share on social media, websites, etc.
  • Content creation – social media, blogs, newsletters and more
  • Matching your content style to different social media platforms, e.g., Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn
  • How, when and where to use videos
  • Webinars – review of possible platforms and strategies for creating webinars
  • Customer journey – from attracting potential clients to nurturing existing ones
  • Tracking and measuring your online impact – such as through Google analytics

A Note of Appreciation to Group Members

Many thanks to the Meetup group members and to all the folks who have attended over the years. Although I created this group, I consider it to be a community of people learning together.

In particular, I want to thank long-time members Lori Dubois, Marie Leslie and Patricia Moore. Both Lori and Marie have also served as presenters. For the last two years, Patricia has taken extensive notes in our annual planning meetings.

Finally, I’m very grateful for all the great ideas that came from the attendees at our recent planning meeting. Along with Patricia, those in attendance were Patrick Baker, Lori Dubois, Jan Stapleman, and myself.
