Please join me in celebrating Colorado Free University (CFU) as they are about to start their 35th year of providing adult education.
Quoting from their website:
“Colorado Free University is a lifelong learning center offering a wide array of skill-building and enrichment courses. More of a learning network than a traditional school, CFU draws its teachers from the community, and all teachers are independent contractors. Classes are designed for busy adults who want to get useful information or new skills without having to commit a great amount of time.”
Currently, there are 125 teachers affiliated with CFU, and a wide range of classes are available. Learn more about CFU, the classes it offers, and what’s involved in being a teacher for them at https://www.freeu.com/
CFU Offers Gift Certificates
If you are looking for a gift for someone who loves to learn, consider purchasing a gift certificate from CFU. These certificates can help your friends and family to learn something new, explore an untapped talent, or enrich their lives.
Between now and December 22, for every $25 you spend for a gift certificate, CFU will add an additional $5 to the gift certificate. You can purchase them here for set amounts. Or you can call 303-399-0093 x 0 to purchase your gift certificates. The person with the gift certificate has up to one year to redeem it, which they can do by calling the CFU office.
Why Am I Celebrating CFU?
My first experience with CFU took place in 1999 when my employer paid me to take some computer classes there. I really appreciated the patience of the teacher, as I had never taken any classes before in Microsoft products.
Then, once I decided to become a social media tutor and trainer, I took over a dozen classes in that field at CFU. These classes culminated in my getting their Online Marketing and Social Media Certification in December 2012. During that time not only did I gain invaluable knowledge about topics relevant to my new field, I formed long-time connections with both teachers and other students.
About six months after I got my certification, the CFU teacher coordinator told me about some social media classes that needed teachers. She wondered if I would be open to teaching these classes, and I jumped at the opportunity. I knew that by teaching these classes, I’d continue to develop my own understanding of these topics.
When I began teaching at CFU in 2013, my classes ranged from “Facebook for Beginners” to “Pinterest for Online Marketing” to “Marketing with Facebook Business Pages”. More recently, I’ve been teaching “Use LinkedIn to Grow Your Business,” which is my favorite class to teach.
The informal, yet focused environment of the CFU class format truly fits my style of teaching. It’s a delight to see how a group of strangers becomes a community of learners in a one-time, three-hour class.
What an honor it is to help to create this opportunity for these learners. Even when the class meets virtually through Zoom, I still see wonderful connections forming between students. In addition, I’ve stayed in touch with a number of my former students, some of whom became my clients.
