Do you celebrate your accomplishments on social media? You may feel that people will get annoyed and think of you as a braggart if you celebrate yourself.

Instead, what I have experienced is that people will be happy for you and honor you for your accomplishments.

Joyce Graduates as a Member of the Leadership Jefferson County Class of 2022

In my June newsletter, my lead article was about my upcoming graduation as a member of the Leadership Jefferson County Class of 2022. This 10-month program was sponsored by the West Metro Chamber Foundation. It included a 1 ½-day retreat in late August, then a day-long program every month on a wide range of topics.

Rarely have I gotten as many emails sent to me after a newsletter as I did for that issue. People told me that I was an inspiration to them. They encouraged me to look for ways to apply what I learned in this leadership experience.

When I graduated, it was very meaningful to me to be honored with the other members of my class. The leader of our class called each of us to the front by name and presented us with our certificates. There was lots of clapping and cheering, which added to the fun of the event.

My certificate states: “On behalf of the West Metro Chamber Foundation, we award you this graduate certificate. It represents outstanding achievement in the successful completion of Leadership Jefferson County.”

Suggestions for Celebrating Accomplishments via Social Media

  • If your accomplishment was completing a degree, reference your college advisor and others who were key parts of your experience. Talk about what they did to help you get that degree.
  • Tell your readers about the accomplishment. If you got a college degree, tell them what prompted you to get that degree. In ways did getting that degree change your life? What adventures did you have while seeking the degree?
  • When you create the post on social media, tag others who were part of the accomplishment. When I share this blog post on LinkedIn and Facebook, I’ll tag Cassie Tanner, the Chair of our class. She’s the one who oversaw the monthly programs we had. And she’s the one who presented the certificates.
