Your LinkedIn About Section is the Story of You

In my opinion, your LinkedIn About section is the story of you in the context of your career. Whether you are a business owner or a job seeker, the focus needs to be on the direction you are heading. Yet, people also want to know a bit of your back story to help them learn more about you. Do you tell your unique, compelling story in your LinkedIn About section? Improve Your Communication and Leadership Skills by Joining Toastmasters

I highly encourage you to improve your communication and leadership skills by joining Toastmasters. Recently, I celebrated my 25th anniversary of joining Toastmasters, and I’m so grateful for all I’ve learned since then. I joined my first club to help me improve my abilities as a salesperson, as I’d never been in that field before. Not only did I become a better speaker, my listening and feedback skills improved as well. Why am I bringing up Toastmasters in this blog post? This week I led a panel presentation on Toastmasters’ educational platform at one of my Toastmasters clubs. Plus, a [...]

Sharing Self-Esteem Tips with Teens

If you were sharing self-esteem tips with teens, what would you tell them? This week I had the opportunity to co-facilitate a workshop on self-esteem for students at McClain Community High School.  This school, located in Lakewood, CO (a suburb of Denver), is the alternative high school for the Jefferson County School District. My co-facilitator, Rashelle Shone, and I are members of the 2022 class of Leadership Jefferson County.   Successful Living Program Each year, the members of this leadership class select a community service project, and our class selected this program. In our workshops we spoke on subjects that [...]

Catch People’s Attention with Your LinkedIn Profile Headline

Do you catch people’s attention with your LinkedIn profile headline? As you craft your profile headline, brainstorm ways to catch people’s attention. Use words and phrases that will intrigue people and cause them to want to know more about you.   My Profile Headline I’ve changed my profile headline many times over the years that I’ve been on LinkedIn. Currently, my headline is “LinkedIn Trainer | LinkedIn Presenter | Baby Boomer Specialist | Business Owners | Job Seekers | Making Social Media Simple, Easy & Fun.” The two parts of this headline that are most attention-getting are “Baby Boomer Specialist” [...]

Social Media Tips from Business Owners

Even though I’m an experienced user of social media, I’m always looking for social media tips from business owners. During the small group discussion time at a meeting of one of my business networking groups, I got some terrific tips. It was interesting to see the variety of approaches these business owners take when it comes to using social media.   David Heckel David is an advanced planning consultant with The Natural Funeral, a holistic funeral home and cremation services provider. David’s tip: Post a video every week on LinkedIn. David creates a video every Monday called “Monday Mortality Minute.” [...]

Using LinkedIn to Grow Your Volunteer Membership Organization

Have you thought about using LinkedIn to grow your volunteer membership organization? Recently, I was honored to share a presentation on this topic for members of the Volunteer Voyageurs Passport Rotary Club. Members of this club live in southern Alabama and attend meetings virtually through Zoom. They really appreciated getting these tips and were excited to start applying them. Rotary created passport clubs for people who want to be part of Rotary, yet are unable to attend in-person meetings. In case you’re not familiar with Rotary, here’s a description of it from Wikipedia: “Rotary International is an international service organization which brings together [...]
