Every Business Website Needs a Periodic Refresh — and the Right Partner to Help

I believe that every business website needs a periodic refresh and the right partner to help. If you visit my website these days, you may notice it looks a little different. Why Website Refreshes Matter One lesson this process reinforced is something I often tell my LinkedIn clients: your online presence is never “done.” Whether it’s your LinkedIn profile or your website, both are living tools that should reflect where your business is today — not where it was three or five years ago. Refreshing your website doesn’t mean starting over. Often, it means clarifying your message, simplifying navigation, updating [...]

Prepare and Adapt. Don’t Obsess.

Later this month, I’ll be having knee replacement surgery on the part of my right knee that is arthritic. It’s called a partial knee replacement. How wonderful it will be to walk my dogs or take a hike and not be in pain the entire time. As I anticipate this surgical experience and the recovery afterwards, I am applying a mindset that has served me well through many personal and professional changes in my life. This mindset can be summed up as: Prepare. Adapt. Don’t obsess. It’s a simple idea—but not always an easy one to practice.   Preparation [...]

Refusing to Be Invisible at 77: Standing Out on LinkedIn at Any Age

Many older women report feeling less visible as they age, particularly in professional contexts. This isn’t imagined—it’s a well-documented combination of ageism and sexism. That’s exactly why choosing visibility—on our own terms—matters. I’m turning 77 in December 2025, and my experience tells a different story from that of many other older women. As a LinkedIn trainer since 2013, I use LinkedIn intentionally to stay visible, relevant, and engaged in my field—not to prove anything, but to continue contributing in meaningful ways. While research shows that older women can sometimes feel overlooked in public and professional spaces, digital platforms can give [...]

Engaging With LinkedIn Connections in 2025

A client recently asked me a familiar question: How do I get more business out of my LinkedIn connections? He had been steadily growing his network—over 500 connections and counting—but hadn’t yet seen results in the form of referrals, conversations, or clients. After reviewing his profile and activity, one thing became very clear: he was connected, but not engaged. Engagement is the heartbeat of LinkedIn. It’s how you stay visible, start conversations, and build meaningful relationships that lead to opportunities. With that in mind, here are some practical ways to engage with your LinkedIn connections. One of the best [...]

AI + Human Insight = Smarter LinkedIn Strategy. Real Results

Artificial Intelligence tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude can be incredibly useful for drafting content, brainstorming ideas, or reworking certain sections of your LinkedIn profile. But without the right guidance from a LinkedIn professional like me, you may end up with a profile that sounds generic, misrepresents your strengths—or simply doesn’t get results. And without expert support, you also miss out on strategic insights into how to use LinkedIn more effectively. As a LinkedIn-focused social media tutor and trainer, I embrace AI tools—but I also know their limitations. When used with expert guidance, AI can become a powerful assistant. On [...]

Publicize Your Meetup Group Events Through LinkedIn

Do you publicize your Meetup Group events through LinkedIn? Many business events I attend are held through Meetup groups. You can grow the number of attendees at these events by promoting them through LinkedIn. I’m using the term “events” in this blog post to refer to the meetings that you are holding through your Meetup group. I've been publicizing my own Meetup - Simplify Your Social Media - through LinkedIn for years. The next meeting of my group is July 8 at 1:30 p.m. Mountain Time, and Shawn Teasley, pictured above, will present "DIY or Delegate? Finding the Right [...]

Tips For Your LinkedIn Experience Section

Are you looking for tips for your LinkedIn Experience section? I challenge you to make your LinkedIn experience section more engaging. Too often, this section is simply a rehash of your professional resume. Make it more like a resume on steroids! Consider jazzing up the section by using some emojis to replace the bullets in a bulleted list within the position descriptions. Other general tips: Highlight key points: focus on your most significant achievements and responsibilities that are relevant to your target audience. Use strong, active verbs: doing so makes your descriptions more impactful and easier to scan. Keep sentences [...]

What are the Benefits of a Paid Account on LinkedIn?

Many clients have asked me: Is it worth it to have a paid account on LinkedIn? For many users, especially those relatively new to using LinkedIn, I generally discourage them from paying for LinkedIn. There’s plenty you can do with a basic (free) account. That said, there are some terrific features available to you when you have a paid account. *At the June 10 meeting of my Simplify Your Social Media Meetup Group, Rosemary O'Shaughnessy (pictured above), a LinkedIn Trainer and Speaker, will present "How LinkedIn Premium Helps Attract and Find Leads Faster." This free event is held through Meetup from [...]
