One of the many things people ask me is to show them ways to appreciate others on Facebook and LinkedIn.
In this post, I’ll focus on ways that relate to your business relationships with others, rather than your personal relationships. Also, I’m expanding the concept of appreciation to include promoting others as well as thanking them.
Acknowledging others on these social sites is an important part of enhancing these business relationships. Consider creating a system of reminders so that you remember to take the time to honor others.
Appreciate Others on Facebook
- Like their Facebook business page and encourage your Facebook friends to like their page.
- Share posts from their business page to your News Feed and to your business page.
- To have their posts appear higher in your News Feed, click on the three dots just below the cover photo of their business page. Select Follow Settings, click on the circle next to Favorites, and then click Update.
- Another way to know when there are posts on their page is to adjust your notifications for their page. Do this by clicking on Follow Settings. This time click on the word “Posts,” and then click on the circle next to “Standard.”
- Click on the Reviews tab in their business page and write a glowing review of their business. You can do this just one time, though you can edit it later.
Appreciate Others on LinkedIn
- Endorse them for skills you know they have. You must be connected on LinkedIn with this person to endorse their skills.
- Write a recommendation praising them for how well they conducted themselves in one of the positions listed in the experience section of their LinkedIn profile. Again, you need to be connected with them on LinkedIn to do that.
- Mention them when you create a post on LinkedIn. The process for doing this is much like tagging someone on Facebook. Type the @ sign, and then type the person’s first and last name. Select the person in the list of drop-down options that LinkedIn shows you.
- For example, if you saw them make a presentation, you can reference that experience when you mention them. Or perhaps they were the one that got you a speaking engagement. That’s another good time to mention them.
- Comment on one of the posts that they share. Or you can share the post. Be sure to include your point of view on the topic they posted about. Also, when they comment on a post of yours, acknowledge that comment.
- When your LinkedIn connections get a new job, or celebrate a work anniversary, congratulate them. You will see these announcements in the notifications section of the menu bar.
