What are your watershed moments? I am referring to those moments in time in which you realized that after that moment your life would never be the same.
For me, three moments come to mind. Curiously – all occurred in December.
The first moment happened in December 1980, for that’s when gave birth to my older daughter Anne. All through my 20s I had resisted having children. And finally at age 31 I was ready to take the plunge into parenting. Once my daughter was born, I realized how much being a mom meant to me, and how glad I had taken that plunge.
The second moment took place in December 1996, when at the age of 48 I discovered Toastmasters, an international organization that provides communication and leadership skills. Unlike those who hear about Toastmasters through their business world in their 20s and 30s, I somehow missed that memo until I was in mid-life. As with parenting, once I found Toastmasters, I took to it like a duck to water. My younger daughter Jane even refers to as “mom’s love affair with Toastmasters.”
The third moment happened in December 2008, the month I turned 60. For that’s when I chose to engage with Facebook and LinkedIn in a major way. Sure, I had heard about social media, but until I consciously committed to jumping into the cyberspace world, I really didn’t know how it worked. Now I can’t imagine life without Facebook and LinkedIn (and whatever other social media I will manage to master). Both have expanded my life and taught me so much.
Through my blog, I will share my journey with social media – the ups and down and twists and turns. Hopefully as I do this, you will benefit from my reflections, and you in turn will share your journey with me and other readers.
Hmm, a watershed moment. I’ll have to say realizing how lucky I am to have my own PR/public speaking business and work with a variety of great clients such as you. An added bonus is working from my home office…no commute, comfy and well-equipped. There are others, but this moment often repeats itself.
Nice website and blog. Congrats on launching. Yay!
Janet,
Thanks for taking the time to comment on my blog post and for all your help in getting my website set up. For you, I am guessing that beginning your path as an instructor at Arapahaoe Community College could be considered a watershed moment. What do you think?

Addendum to my previous comment: Social media has expanded my reach. I enjoy using the platforms to get out my messages and share my favorite things such as articles and go-to places. It’s great you can show boomers how to utilize these resources for fun and more. You are a one-of-a-kind coach!
