Even though I’m an experienced user of social media, I’m always looking for social media tips from business owners.

During the small group discussion time at a meeting of one of my business networking groups, I got some terrific tips. It was interesting to see the variety of approaches these business owners take when it comes to using social media.

David Heckel

David is an advanced planning consultant with The Natural Funeral, a holistic funeral home and cremation services provider.

David’s tip:

Post a video every week on LinkedIn. David creates a video every Monday called “Monday Mortality Minute.” Being consistent with posting these videos has led to a steady increase in the number of people looking at his profile.

Recently, he created a written post, along with a video, about a special event coming up on March 20. His video can be accessed here.

Quoting from his post:

“Please join my teammates and me for a public ceremony when we return to the earth the fertile rich soil that resulted from the first human remains to undergo Natural Reduction by composting in Colorado. There will be music and poetry, and we will be sowing native seeds into the soil.

In the reverent care and monitoring by our professional skilled staff over the past months, we have witnessed and facilitated the miraculous transformation of this person’s remains to rich soil. This soil will nurture the earth at The Colorado Burial Preserve in Florence, CO where the ceremony will be held. The Colorado Burial Preserve is the state’s first dedicated green cemetery.”

Linda Fankboner

Linda is a Shaklee independent distributor and health consultant. Shaklee is a wellness company working in harmony with nature and backed by rigorous science. Quoting from the company’s LinkedIn company page, “Since 1956, Shaklee has been creating products that actually work, nurture, heal and change lives.” They have a 100% money-back guarantee on their products.

Linda’s tip:

Reach out to people through Facebook Messenger when they regularly engage with your Facebook posts. Linda has been taking this approach when people engage with her posts about the benefits of Shaklee’s products, as well as the business opportunities. Over time she has developed a professional relationship with many of these people. Some of them end up joining her team.

Anne Feustel

Anne is a freelance writer, editor and content creator, as well as a published author. Her book, “Our Favorite Movies: How Films Affect Our Mental Health,” was published in 2019. She is very active in several business networking groups and frequently does one-to-ones via Zoom with people from these groups.

Anne’s tip:

Send LinkedIn messages instead of emails when networking. Anne has found that connecting on LinkedIn with selected people she meets and then messaging them on LinkedIn works really well.

Almost everyone she invites to connect with her accepts her invite. She has learned that messaging them through LinkedIn gets better results than emailing them. LinkedIn messages don’t end up in spam filters, whereas emails frequently do.
