There are many benefits of participating in Facebook Groups.
Over time, Facebook has changed the rules on how many people see the posts on Facebook business pages. Therefore, more business people are becoming more active in Facebook groups to reach a wider audience.
Some groups are associated with an organization that meets in real life. (Or for now, that group may be meeting virtually.) Some business people may offer exclusive Facebook groups for their clients. Still other groups might be for people in a shared industry. In my case, I’ve been part of all these kinds of groups and see value in all of them.
What are Facebook Groups?
According to Facebook:
“Groups provide a space to communicate about shared interests with certain people. You can create a group for anything — your family reunion, your after-work sports team, your book club.”

Why Create a Facebook Group?
There are countless reasons to create a group on Facebook. Among them are:
- To share tips and points of view.
- To provide a way for people to stay in touch. This type of group could connect people in a business networking organization. Or it could connect a group of friends or family or folks who share a hobby or interest.
- To increase business opportunities. As group members get to know each other, they may start to do business with each other. They may also recommend group members to others needing their services.
In addition, group members can share information about their events, celebrations, and other news about their business.
Newer Features
- Posts that are pinned to the top of a group’s page are now called Announcements. Only group admins can create them.
- Up to nine group members can conduct a private meeting via video chat in what Facebook calls “Messenger Rooms.” There may be some privacy issues with using these rooms. - Facebook has created a group quality feature for all Facebook groups. Through this feature, Facebook informs members if content being shared in the group is what they call “false news.” This feature also checks to see if something posted in the group violates Facebook’s Community Standards. You can find more details about this feature at: https://www.facebook.com/communitystandards/
