LinkedIn Training for CU Denver Change Makers

Recently, I conducted LinkedIn training for participants in the Change Makers program through the University of Colorado Denver. The time with them flew by, as they had so many questions about LinkedIn. This wonderful experience energized me. The participants in the semester’s program are 56 to 74 and looking for what to do next. Some are currently in the workforce, and some have retired relatively recently. The folks I spoke to are in the 10th week of this 14-week program, which involves twice-a-week classes. The program is structured to provide the participants with plenty of opportunities for self-reflection. It [...]

How Your Brand Comes Across on LinkedIn

Have you ever thought about how your brand comes across on LinkedIn? How you describe yourself in your LinkedIn profile is a key part of your brand. The items you choose to post about and the comments you make on the posts of others also reflect your brand. In a few days, I’ll attend an event with 25 speakers, including me. There are five speakers in each time slot and five rounds of sessions. That means I can select four other sessions to attend along with my own. I want to experience sessions from speakers whose brand resonates with [...]

Use LinkedIn to Grow Your Membership Organization

There are many ways you can use LinkedIn to grow your membership organization. These organizations can range from service clubs, like Rotary or Kiwanis, to professional associations to community organizations, like Toastmasters. Recently, I helped Nancy Winston (pictured above), a Toastmaster for over 40 years and a retired educator, to start using LinkedIn. Quoting from the Toastmasters International website: “Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that builds confidence and teaches public speaking skills through a worldwide network of clubs that meet online and in person. In a supportive community or corporate environment, members prepare and deliver speeches, respond to [...]

Why Should Business Owners Use LinkedIn?

Why Should Business Owners Use LinkedIn? Since LinkedIn is often associated with getting a job, people sometimes ask me why should business owners use LinkedIn. In the 10 years that I’ve been providing LinkedIn tutoring and training, I’ve reflected on this question many times. Most business owners can see the point of having a profile on LinkedIn that represents them well. However, some of them are puzzled about what you would do on LinkedIn beyond having the profile. Benefits to Business Owners of Using LinkedIn   Showcase your brand. Key parts of your profile for showcasing your brand include the [...]

How to Find Influencers in Your Field and Relate with Them on LinkedIn

Have you ever wondered how to find influencers in your field and relate with them on LinkedIn? I’ll start with the second part of this question – how to relate with influencers on LinkedIn. Sharing Posts of a Personal Nature on LinkedIn

Sometimes clients ask me about whether sharing posts of a personal nature on LinkedIn is appropriate. In general, I find it perfectly acceptable to share personal posts on LinkedIn. In fact, some of my personal types of posts have generated more views and comments than any of my business-oriented posts. When that happens, I've featured those posts on my LinkedIn profile. Some Ideas for Sharing Personal Posts on LinkedIn Include a tip or other type of message in your post. Whenever possible, I make a point of including tips in my personal posts.
